THE FEAR OF READING OTHER BLOGGERS BLOGS

There are bloggers who are afraid of reading other peoples blogs. I have met a lot of bloggers over the years and I am pretty surprised that some of them actually find it frightening to read blogs made by other bloggers. I was dumbstruck when I first heard about it. I was in a blog convention when I met them and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever meet such strange people.

So what is scary about reading other blogs?
There are actually tons of reasons. According to them, the fear of reading other blogs (especially blogs in their niche) is a psychological thing, something that is innate not just in bloggers but to other people as well. But based on my observations and soft research, majority of them feel anxious about exploring the world outside of their own, because it might change them, their writing style, their point of view. In addition, they are scared of being influenced by other writers in their niche and end up becoming like them. On the other hand, beyond these simple reasons is one realization: some bloggers are just braggarts, actually, most of them are. They cannot accept that there is someone better than they are.
Reading is still the key
Yet the key to effective writing is still reading. I am no writer, but I can say that reading is the simplest way to gain knowledge and be able to grasp information that are usually hard for you to comprehend. Through reading, you can be a Parisian actor, a Chilean governor, someone who has the capability to do all things like embracing the Eiffel Tower by one hand, a geographer that recites every Mexican towns topography, anything. I know I am overreacting, but I now you get my point. Reading is a channel to go places, to learn things beyond your realm, your alcove, your knowledge, and your niche.
Yet like any other fear, the fear of reading another bloggers blog is a kind that binds a writer within his comfort zone. It limits the writer from expanding his ideas, learning other things, knowing different styles, and understanding how others think. It is true that blogging is sharing what is inside the writer, what he thinks and feels, yet on the other hand, it is about being a part of another bloggers ideas as well.
I guess sometimes any type of personal expression can stress a person so he is afraid to compare themselves to others and maybe have to question how good their posts and blog is.
