Website traffic is the life blood of a website. It is essential to have a web marketing strategy in place to attract customers to your website. There are a number of methods which have been developed but one size does not fit all and not all strategies work for all people or businesses. There needs to be a bit of effort on your part in order to make strategies work.
Does your business have a brand and it is recognisable? Branding is all about making your business known so that when it is talked about, seen in print or even on the internet, people already know about your business products and services. Branding results in website traffic and just as it is important to have a business name that gives and indication of what you do, your website name is also critical. It must be easy to remember and easy to find, even if it is spelled wrong when typed into the search engine.
Generating website traffic can be accomplished in several ways. A good start is to add the web address to your email signature. Make sure that it is on all your printed stationery and literature. In your advertisements, make sure your web address is prominent. Send out a press release and be sure the web address figures prominently into the copy. Post on forums and discussion boards associated with relevant topics and include your web address to your signature.
Your marketing plan should include search engine optimisation (also known as SEO) to boost search engine ranking. The optimisation comes from well-placed key words that are determined by the web crawlers. Search engine keywords are those words that internet users will type into Google for example, to conduct a search in a search engine. A keyword can consist of a single word, such as “dogs” or an entire phrase, like “dog training for puppies”.
Key word density is also critical. Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on your web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimisation, keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. A good density for key words is 2 to 3%. If the key word density is simply too high, the web crawler may identify it as spam and reduce the ranking for your website. Key words that are not relevant to the subject may also reduce your search engine ranking. Web crawlers are incredibly intelligent and not easily misled.
Website traffic will always be a goal regardless of how popular the web page becomes. Once you find a method that works for generating traffic, use it until it does not work any longer then move onto a new technique.
