Why Your Website Should Have a Local Focus

The Art of using Google is to let Google do the hard work for you. Once you have a focus on what your potential clients are searching for and where they are, you are half way to fixing the problem.
You might think that just having a “nice looking” website is all thats required but it isnt.
Users dont very often type in your name because they dont know you yet. They might search for a specific product or service but your website will never show up in these search results unless you do the behind the scenes work.
Give your site the focus it needs, identify where your new clients are and what they might be looking for. These questions should not be difficult to answer if youre a Plumber in Woking?
A locally focussed website is better targeted. You waste less time dealing with worthless enquiries from afar and get much better qualified results.
If you are a local business with a local focus or just need help with focussing your website correctly on selected local towns or counties, then, you should identified your top 10 search terms that you want to get ranked by Google and actually do the Google searches yourself. If you dont get ranked then there is work to do.
You need a specific page for each and every keyword thats important to you. This page needs to be set up in such a way that Google indexes the page correctly and rates it highly. The absolute minimum you should do is to name the page the same as the keyword eg “yoursite.com/plumber_in_woking.html” and make sure the page title, description and keyword meta tags all mention the specific keyword. The keyword should also be mentioned in the body text of the page. If you have links to or from the page then use the keyword in the link text. If you have a photo on the page then save it as keyword.jpg
These are some of the basics. The rest is more of an art than a science and involves a comparison of the pages that are getting ranked in the top 10 and adjusting your content accordingly. Ive listed some reports on my website that give you some idea of how some recent client sites have performed. Having first helped them focus on the key search words, then integrated these into the structure of the website. The results are impressive.
Time is short, so give it some thought and take some action today.
